Connacht Coast - Norman Ackroyd
Acclaimed landscape artist and printmaker Norman Ackroyd’s work ranges from minimalist, nearly abstract impressions, to detailed images. His art rarely includes the human figure; the landscape subjects are often of old human habitation. His prints range from tiny etchings intended to be bound into books to larger etchings, while his preferred medium for working directly on paper is watercolour.
Ackroyd was born in Leeds. After graduation from Leeds College of Art and the UK’s Royal College of Art, he lived for several years in the US. He was elected to the Royal Academy of Art in 1988 and appointed Professor of Etching, University of the Arts. He was elected Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Art in 2000, and in 2007 was awarded a CBE for services to Engraving and Printing.
