Horse Latitudes - Diarmuid Delargy | Clew Bay Gallery

Clew Bay Gallery, James St | Wed Oct 23 - Mon Oct 28

Launch: Sat Oct 19th, 5.30pm

An exhibition of work by world-renowned Irish artist and printmaker Diarmuid Delargy.

In a career spanning more than 30 years, Belfast-born Delargy has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. His works are held in major public and museum art collections, as well as in many private collections – including those of Seámus Heaney, Pat McCabe, Stephen Rea, Ciarán Carson, Paul Muldoon, Eoin McNamee and Michael Longley.

‘Horse Latitudes and Other Works’ showcases the fruits of recent experimental work (or ‘messing about’ as Delargy calls it) that prompted the artist to explore the story of how a fleeing Spanish Armada herded its horses, mules and livestock overboard in a bid to save drinking water and hasten its retreat. Over the past decade, Delargy has produced a body of work that explores the theme of ‘Art and Extinction’, and some of this work will also form part of the exhibition.
