Achill singer-songwriter Graham Sweeney’s dynamic live performances have to be seen to be believed. Shifting seamlessly between traditional guitar playing, percussive finger-tapping and delicate, rhythmic vocal melodies, he creates a truly distinctive sound that captivates listeners and leaves them wanting more. Watch as his guitar effortlessly slips from a familiar shoulder-slung position to lay across his knees, and every inch of its potential as an instrument is unleashed. This is guitar playing as you’ve never seen it before. Prepare to be gobsmacked.
Sweeney is influenced by a host of different styles of music, and his inspiration comes from an equally wide range of sources, from English literature and poetry to the characters he comes across in his daily life.
Prior festival appearances include Electric Picnic, Body and Soul, Spirit of Folk and more, while he has toured with Declan O’Rourke and supported Mick Flannery and Damien Dempsey. Graham is working on a new album, due out later this year, so Westport audiences may get a tantalising taste of his new material.
