Berta dunes are in danger and will disappear if we don’t act now.
Increased storm frequency, rising sea level and recreational use of the dunes have all contributed to the erosion and destabilisation of Berta’s dunes. In the past 12 years the marram grass, which holds the dune sand together, has decreased by 62% and this trend is likely to continue if we don’t act to reverse the degradation and implement regenerative practices and management.
ACT (Accelerating Change Together) are developing a vision in collaboration with Bertra Connected, Mayo County Council, the CARO and other stakeholders that aims to become a blueprint for Bertra’s future. This vision, which is funded by the Heritage Council, shows how the dunes can be regenerated through a series of projects and initiatives with a focus on collective stewardship, nature-based solutions and innovative practices.
Join us on Thursday 27th October @ 7pm for the launch of our draft ‘Community Stewardship of Bertra Vision’ + Exhibition – the outcome of co-design community workshops held over the Summer.
