A lantern installation by Tom Meskell reflecting on and trying to express that sense of stillness that many of us experienced during the early weeks of the lockdown.
Tom is a maker of lanterns and has mostly developed his lantern projects with large numbers of participant’s, with the aid of the covid-19 arts council award he has had the freedom to explore on his own in the studio to use this technique on his own, outside the demands of facilitating groups of people.
He has allowed the technique to bring him on its own journey, the work will be displayed at Brehenys, Castlebar St. For everyone to see from October 21st to 26th.
Tom Meskell is originally from Dublin and has been living in east Mayo since 2000 and maintains a house and studio there. He has been working as an artist full time since 1998, his discipline’s include painting, lantern sculpture and large scale installations. in that time he has been heavily involved in working in a community context. Tom has been on the fore front of arts and health in Ireland. he has developed arts programs in Offaly, Leitrim and Mayo. Tom is working more and more internationally with successful projects in Finland, Spain, USA and Germany.
