Spirited player of fiddle, viola, hammered dulcimer and percussion, since 1991 Dee Armstrong has been a member of Kíla, Ireland’s most celebrated world music band, with 12 studio and various live albums under their belt along with soundtracks for theatre and film, most recently scoring our Westival featured film 'Arracht'.
During lockdown, Dee has written and recorded new music with her son Lughaidh, a songwriter on a stellar trajectory himself, currently guitarist in David Keenan’s band, having toured countrywide and recording on his latest EP. He has also joined Kíla for numerous shows and is currently working on his own debut EP with his band Sky Atlas, some of which he will present for the first time at Westival.
Gráinne Horan comes from a long line of musicians steeped in the South Sligo style of Irish Traditional Music, from a young age fortunate to learn from many of the great fiddlers of Gurteen, Riverstown and Ballymote, developing a vivacious and energetic style of playing, that makes it almost impossible not to tap your foot along to.
Rónán Ó Snodaigh fellow Kíla founding member, is one of Ireland's best and most innovative bodhrán players and a highly original singer songwriter, mixing the Irish and English Languages, bluesy grooves with wild percussion and folk guitar to create his unique organic sound. Described by John Walsh (Hot Press) as 'the living embodiment of Turlough O Carolan and Bob Marley', and by a fan as ‘…The Jimi Hendrix of Bodhrán'
Prepare for a wonderful night of the stuff our souls have been craving!
