‘Impossible not to fall for their joyful, jazzy, infectious sound’ – The Irish Times ****
‘At Hypnotic Brass Ensemble gigs, people boogie and gesticulate even on their way to the loos’ – The Guardian ****
After the launch of the Westival Gallery in the old Dunnes building on Castlebar Street, shimmy across the road to the Westival Opening Party. The stellar venue that is the Live Lounge will be filled with the joyous sound of the incredible Hypnotic Brass Ensemble from Chicago.
Comprised of eight (yes, eight!) horn-playing brothers – sons of the pioneering jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran – this legendary band’s rousing repertoire ranges from hip-hop to jazz to funk, soul and rock, with a bit of calypso and gypsy thrown in for good measure.
HBE’s reputation as the hottest horns in the business has been copper fastened by collaborations with the likes of Prince, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu and De la Soul. Fresh from performing with Macy Gray, Black Star, Gorillaz and a string of sold-out shows around the globe, their Westival appearance will be a very special preview showcase of their much-anticipated forthcoming album ‘Bad Boys of Jazz’. A once-in-a-life time chance to catch one of the New York Times’ Top 20 Acts to See Live.
